As a fun "let’s compare" moment, here’s the cover for THE MASTER OF VERONA in its original incarnation:

.
And here it is in its final form:
I much prefer the final version. Of course, that may be because the change in color was my idea.
Thing is, I didn’t expect anyone to listen to me on this. There’s a whole section to my contract that details all of the things I have no control over. Things like font, typesetting, and cover art. So I’m pleased as punch when they even listen to my suggestions, let alone enact them.
The red does look much cooler.
Oh, and on a side note, the thing at my school was realy awesome, thanks!
Yeah, I’m pleased. Though I’m curious to see what the cover will look like in Russia, Poland, and Spain – they’ve all bought rights. I’m actually spending more time in bookstores looking at cover art – it’s fascinating, the art of selling words through a single picture… fascinating, and terrifying!
I take it you’re from Howell. Glad you had fun. It’s always a good time for me – well worth the drive.
Cheers,
DB
Do you get any say in what the cover looks like in Russia Poland and Spain?
(And yup, I’m from Howell)
No say whatsoever. I probably won’t even see them before they go to press. I’ll just get a couple of copies in the mail. Something to look forward to – my name in cyrilic.
Say hello to Wendy (Mrs. Hiller) for me. And tell her it’s okay, I understand about the letters. She’ll know what I’m talking about.

Do you speak any russian polish or spanish?
I’ll tell her tomorrow before exams!
I speak a little Spanish and I can transliterate Russian (a holdover from one of my earliest jobs). But really I want copies for their shelf value – fun to pull down at parties.
Best of luck with your exams.

I told her and she just laughed and asked how I was talking to you.
I hope you said ESP.
ESP?
Oh, wait I know what ESP is, it’s the morning and I’m thinking a bit slow.
Also, im going to use the morning excuse again, when I told Mrs.Hiller that, It was 1st hour, and I couldn’t think of any witty responses, so I just said you had a blog.
