This Friday opens my most recent project: a modern-dress Romeo & Juliet at Eastern Michigan University's Quirk Theater. The cast is wonderful, moreso because it's the first time in many years that my Juliet, Romeo, and the boys have been age-appropriate (or close – my Juliet is not actually 13, but I've never seen one that was, and wouldn't want to). They're all excited by my take on the show, and have worked their tails off to carry it thru. We start tech tonight, adding lights and sound to their performance. It's gonna be great.
Yesterday the Ann Arbor News published its preview of the show, which mostly consists of an interview with me. It's nice not to be misquoted, though I'm gonna have to watch my wandering phrases – I sound like a babbling fool at one point. But better that than someone putting words in my mouth, which has happened before. If you're interested in R&J, it might be worth a read.
Later this week the Eastern Echo will publish their preview as well. And hopefully I'll find the time this week to write up a few of the unique or original beats and moments from the show, from Tybalt's ghost to the death of Benvolio.
