I haven't posted since the election. Because I've been writing non-stop. The Roman novel is moving well, I know where it's going. But Jan said something interesting last night. She's about three chapters in, and she's not sure what this book is going to be. She says she's always so primed by blurbs and flap copy thar she knows what she's getting into before she starts.
I like the idea of a reader being in a process of discovery, much the same as a movie-goer. Trailers spoil most of the best bits of a movie. Do back-cover blurbs do the same? I wonder.
Meanwhile, for those who are interested, there's a Facebook fan pagefor me. Seems silly, but people have joined, so I thought I'd mention it.
'K. Back to work.
I agree with Jan. I tend NOT to read blurbs and back covers if I know I want to read a book or author ahead of time. ANY information just spoils it for me, because the author who took great care in telling me a story will get ruined by another writer who didn’t hold the same care and viewpoints as the novel writer. They’re paid to advertise and market a book, while the author is motivated (hopefully) by sharing a great story.
